Object Name Photograph of First Baptist Church
Description Enlarged black and white photograph of First Baptist Church here in Galveston. It was built on Tremont and 22nd Streets in 1881-1883 by the architect Nathaniel Tobey Jr. The church is very large, and has Gothic-style (?) architecture, and is made from concrete. First Baptist church in Galveston was orgaized in 1840. Gail Borden was one of the first officers of the church. Originally built in 1847, it was replaced with Toby's design and dedicated in June 1893. A third sanctuary was built in 1905.
