Description |
Small child's silver cup. Cup probably made of German pewter or nickel silver as it is known. Round in shape with curved applied handle. Front of cup has incised extensive floral designed engraving "W.G. to L.R. Dec 25 98" A band of triangular decoration around base of cup. Base is flat and has "MADE AND GUARANTEED BY MERIDEN B. COMPANY USA 250" on bottom with a symbol of a scale balance in a circle. Signed Cup originally belonged to Lydia M. Ripke, who was born in 1895, the daughter of Henry and Emilia Ripke. Later, Lydia's uncle dug the cup up in the 1000 block of Avenue L, Galveston, where it had gone through the 1900 storm. Lydia Ripke never married and spent her life in Galveston.
